The Lagos State Police Command has arraigned a woman, Abiola Odutayo, in connection with the tragic death of Adetunji Opayele, popularly known as Teejay, co-founder of Bumpa.

Odutayo was brought before Court 1, Tinubu, on March 12, 2025, after being discharged from the hospital.

She faces charges of reckless and careless driving on a public highway, which resulted in Opayele’s death.

The fatal incident, which occurred on March 4, 2025, has sparked public outrage, with over 35,000 Nigerians signing a petition demanding justice.

Many are calling for harsher charges, including manslaughter, rather than reckless driving.

Confirming the development in a statement on X (formerly Twitter), Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, stated:

**“We acknowledge public concerns regarding the tragic accident that claimed the life of Adetunji Opayele (Teejay) on March 4, 2025. Our deepest sympathies go out to his family, friends, and all affected by this loss.

Following a thorough investigation, we confirm that Abiola Odutayo was arraigned in Court 1, Tinubu, on March 12, 2025, after being discharged from the hospital.

She was charged with driving recklessly on a public highway, failing to exercise due care for other road users, and causing the death of one Tunji Opayele, aged 32, thereby committing an offence.”**
