Ondo students protest rising kidnappings, insecurity

Protesters in Minna

Students from various tertiary institutions in Ondo State took to the streets on Wednesday, March 27, to protest the increasing cases of kidnappings and other criminal activities in the state.

Led by the NANS South West chairman, Oluwarotimi Joshua, the students blocked major roads in Akure, the state capital, disrupting traffic as they demanded urgent action from the state government and security agencies.

Holding placards with various messages, they expressed their frustration over the worsening security situation.

The students accused the government of failing to prioritize the safety of lives and property, despite repeated engagements and peaceful dialogues.

They also raised concerns about the deteriorating conditions of tertiary institutions, the lack of student-friendly policies, and the security threats faced by students, particularly those undergoing the Students’ Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES).

Attempts by the state commissioner of police, Wilfred Afolabi, to disperse the protesters and remove the roadblocks were met with strong resistance.
