A 13-year-old girl who had been reported missing was found murdered, with her hands severed, in an abandoned and burned-down home in Toledo, Ohio, United States of America

Her father, who made a public appeal for her return, has now been arrested in connection with her death.

Keimani Latigue’s body was discovered on Monday, March 24, six days after she was reported missing.

Authorities described the case as one of the most horrific they have encountered.

According to Columbus Police Lt. Brian Steel, Keimani’s hands had been detached from her body, and her head was nearly severed.

“This is an absolute animal that came into our town,” Steel said.

On Tuesday, March 25, police located Keimani’s father, Darnell Jones, 33. When confronted, he allegedly pulled a gun, prompting an officer to fire multiple shots.

Jones was taken to the hospital, underwent surgery, and remains in stable condition. It is unclear whether he fired at officers.

“If you pull a gun on officers, as we’ve said many times, this is the outcome you can expect,” Steel added.

Jones has since been charged with murder in connection to his daughter’s death.

An autopsy conducted by the Lucas County Coroner’s Office confirmed that Keimani died from multiple deep wounds to the neck.

She was just days away from turning 14.

Keimani’s mother, Tiara Kasten, described her daughter as a homebody who enjoyed school and basketball.

“I saw her on the 15th. Her dad brought her to my house,” Kasten told WTVG.

“Apparently, my mother gave him permission, and honestly, I was just spending time with my kid. We played video games,” she added.

Keimani was a student at Spring Elementary School, where her passing has left a deep impact.

“The students and staff at Spring Elementary are saddened by the loss of their friend and classmate, Keimani Latigue,” a Toledo Public Schools spokesperson stated.

“She will be remembered as a friendly and kind student who got along well with others.”
