The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed the resumption of the recall process of the Kogi Central Senator, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, after the petitioners corrected their error of not including their contact addresses, phone numbers, and email addresses.
Recall that INEC had on Tuesday, March 26, remarked that it had received the recall petition but did not meet the necessary requirements.
The commission stated that the petitioners’ representatives had failed to include their contact details in the cover letter, as required under Clause 1(f) of its Regulations and Guidelines.
However, in a statement issued on Wednesday, March 26, INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information & Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, confirmed that the missing information had now been provided in a letter addressed to the Commission’s Chairman on the same day.
The statement read:
“Following the statement released yesterday, Tuesday, March 25, 2025, the Commission confirms that the contact details of the petitioners’ representatives, including their telephone numbers and email addresses, have now been submitted in a letter dated Wednesday, March 26, 2025.
“In line with Clause 2(a) of the Commission’s 2024 Regulations and Guidelines for Recall, a letter has been sent to the Senator in question, notifying her of the petition’s receipt. This letter has also been forwarded to the Senate’s presiding officer and published on the Commission’s website.
“The next step involves verifying the list of signatories submitted by the petitioners to ensure that more than 50% of registered voters in the constituency have signed the petition. This process will take place in the coming days, and its outcome, which will determine the Commission’s next course of action, will be made public.
“We reiterate our commitment to ensuring that the process remains transparent and open to all Nigerians.”
