A 25-year-old man, Joseph Abodunrin, has died by suicide in the Dagbolu community of Osogbo Local Government Area, Osun State.

The victim reportedly took his own life on March 25, 2025, after sharing his location.

Joseph had previously expressed struggles with fear, personal limitations, and unresolved childhood traumas, which he said significantly affected his mental health.

“I live like a hermit in a vibrant city. Not by choice, but due to trauma, hereditary factors, or childhood upbringing—whichever one it is,” he wrote.

“I try to find reasons to be happy, alive, and grateful, but none of it lasts long. My fears, inabilities, and unconscious traumas have taken a chief seat, constantly reminding me they are going nowhere.”

Joseph shared on January 31, 2025, that despite his struggles, he had chosen to stay alive for the sake of his younger siblings.

“If not for my siblings, I would not be here. Those younglings still have so much optimism, hope, and dreams. I don’t want to crush that with the news of my death,” he wrote.

However, in a later post, he hinted at making a final decision in March, expressing feelings of helplessness.

“I had no control over the genes I inherited or the parents I was born to… I have tried to seek help, but it only made things worse. I’m practicing self-compassion through this process, regardless of whatever decision I make.”

By March 9, he questioned his reasons for continuing to fight for survival.

“I have asked myself several times why I should keep fighting to stay alive, and I haven’t found a meaningful answer. I don’t see any reason to keep going.”

In what appeared to be his final message on March 24, he apologized to those who cared for him.

“I’m sorry I failed you all. I just couldn’t do it anymore. No matter how I explain, you won’t understand.

“I hope you all find the strength to keep fighting, to stay hopeful, and never compromise on your dreams. That is my last wish. In everything, I give glory to God. I ran my race and gave it everything I had. Finally passing on the baton. My passwords are on the first page of my diary. Goodbye.”

Confirming his passing on March 26, 2025, a family member, Abodunrin Grace, expressed her heartbreak in a post on X.

“I’m still shattered, with so many unprocessed words. You were the best brother. You encouraged us all, but you voiced out in a space we never thought to check. You hid it all from us, masking it with fake laughter and smiles. Now, we can’t get over it.”

She added: “He was my cousin—more like a big brother. No amount of lamenting can bring him back. The tagging is overwhelming. I have tried to stay strong. It’s nobody’s fault. Please, if anyone is struggling, please try to heal. We are all going through something. Life isn’t easy for anyone.”
