Former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has accused the president of the Nigerian Senate, Godswill Akpabio, of abusing women while he was the governor of Akwa Ibom State.
Atiku said this in a recent interview with journalist Adesuwa Giwa-Osagie on the program Untold Stories.
In the wake of the sexual harassment allegation leveled against Akpabio by suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, Atiku was asked if there were reports of similar accusation or corruption allegations against Godswill Akpabio when he was governor.
Atiku answered in the affirmative.
He said, “Yes. Not only was he corrupt, but he also had a history of abusing women.”
To a question of whether he would run for president in 2027 elections or head any coalition to unseat the government of the day, he said,
‘’In 2014, we had a similar merger, with several candidates contesting. We all ran for president and one emerged, and we all supported him. Nigeria has never been in greater need of credible leadership than now.”
On the declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State, he was asked if he was surprised by how speedily the National Assembly approved President Bola Tinubu’s action.
In response, Atiku said, “No. The leadership is corrupt, and I have no apologies for saying that. They could do anything. The Senate President is known for such behavior, even as a governor.”
