A loaded fuel tanker has exploded at A.A Rano filling station in Hannun Riga, Kontagora, headquarters of Kontagora Local Government Area of Niger State.

The filling station is located a few meters from ‘B’ Division of the Nigeria Police, Kontagora.

The incident occurred while Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), popularly known as petrol, was reportedly being offloaded from the tanker, around 7pm, on Sunday, March 23, 2025.

Quoting eye-witnesses spoken to via telephone, Daily Trust reported that the fire started during the offloading process.

There were fears that other fuel storage tanks at the station still containing fuel would also explode.

“Fire Service personnel are currently doing their best to contain the fire, though the situation remained tense as the fire continued to spread,” Abba Mohammed, one of the witnesses, said.

The witness said no casualty was recorded as people fled the scene once the fire started.
