A woman has ended her own life by jumping into the lagoon from the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos.
The incident happened on Thursday, March 13, 2005, around 4 pm near the University of Lagos (UNILAG) waterfront in Lagos State.
The woman reportedly d!ed before she could be brought out.
It was said that it took a while to contact the marine police officers stationed in the area, but their swift response could not save the woman.
Lagos State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the report to SaharaReporters on Friday.
Hundeyin said despite the marine police officers’ efforts to save her, medical personnel from the University of Lagos confirmed her death upon arrival.
The deceased’s body has since been evacuated to the Infectious Disease Hospital (IDH) Mortuary in Yaba for preservation.
He said: “She was recovered at the University of Lagos shore slipway by a team of marine police officers stationed in the area. Despite their efforts, she was confirmed dead by a team of UNILAG medical doctors in the presence of officers from the Sabo Police Division.”
