The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the discovery of the burial site of Lagos State University, Adedamola Ogunbode, following the arrest of the prime suspect, Olaoluwa Ajisomo.

Punch learned that Ajisomo, who was rumored to have fled to the Benin Republic, was in police custody and assisting detectives in locating the burial site.

Confirming the latest development, the command’s spokesperson, Chief Superintendent of Police Benjamin Hundeyin, said Ajisomo was apprehended on Monday morning in the Alakuko area of Lagos.

Ogunbode, a Political Science Education graduate from LASU, had been missing since January 16, 2025.

Speculation arose that his mutilated body had been discovered, leading to an extensive investigation.

Last Friday, the Lagos State Police Command announced the arrest of three suspects linked to the crime, with a manhunt launched for five others.

Among those arrested was a pastor, Whepetoji Sunday, who allegedly received N70,000 from the victim’s account, and a church member, Sheriff Adebayo, who reportedly received N300,000.

Also arrested was Omolara Ajisomo, the suspect’s mother, accused of aiding her children, Teniola and Olaoluwa Ajisomo, in escaping after they each allegedly received N300,000 from the victim’s account.

Following protests by LASU students demanding justice, Lagos State Commissioner of Police Olohundare Jimoh directed the State Criminal Investigation Department to take over the case.

Regarding the grave’s location, Hundeyin clarified that it was not within church premises, contrary to speculation.

He also confirmed that the church where the arrested cleric worshipped had been sealed to prevent retaliatory attacks.

“The shallow grave is not within the church premises but is located in the community. The church was sealed off after intelligence reports suggested plans to set it on fire in retaliation,” he stated.

A source close to the investigation revealed that police detectives were en route to exhume the victim’s remains after Ajisomo confessed to the crime and led them to the burial site.

When contacted, Hundeyin confirmed, “The principal suspect has confessed, and the police are proceeding to recover the body.”
