The US Secret Service operatives have shot a man following an armed confrontation near the White House early on Sunday morning, March 9.
Reports indicated that law enforcement agents responded to a potential threat near the White House.
The operatives encountered the armed man near the intersection of 17th Street and F Street NW, approximately a five-minute walk from the White House.
Earlier reports from DC police had warned of a “suicidal individual” possibly travelling from Indiana, prompting authorities to track down the man’s vehicle.
The car was located near the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, which sits adjacent to the White House.
According to the US Secret Service spokesman Anthony Guglielmi, when officers approached the vehicle, the suspect “brandished a firearm, and an armed confrontation ensued, during which shots were fired by our personnel.”
“Thankfully, no injuries were reported among Secret Service agents.”
The man was taken to the hospital following the shooting, but his current condition remains unclear.
