Dr. Doyin Okupe, a prominent Nigerian physician, politician, and former presidential aide, has passed away at the age of 72.

Sources close to the family report that Dr. Okupe had been critically ill in the weeks leading up to his demise, with his health deteriorating significantly.

Sahara Reporters confirmed that his death was linked to cancer, marking the end of a long struggle with the illness.

Dr. Okupe had a history of prostate cancer, first diagnosed 16 years ago, and a later bout with sarcoma in his right shoulder. Despite these health challenges, he remained active in public life, sharing his experiences and faith openly.

In October 2024, he testified about his recovery from cancer, attributing his healing to his strong belief in the Bible and urging fellow Christians to have complete faith in the scriptures.

Throughout his career, Dr. Okupe served in various capacities, including as a spokesperson for former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan.

He was also the Director-General of the Labour Party’s presidential campaign during the 2023 elections.

His contributions to Nigerian politics and public service have been widely acknowledged, and he was known for his dedication to the nation’s development.

Dr. Okupe’s passing is a significant loss to the nation. He is survived by his wife and children, who have requested privacy during this difficult time. Funeral arrangements will be announced by the family in due course.
