A stalwart of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in Lagos, Joe Igbokwe has expressed dismay at what transpired in Lagos yesterday, Monday, March 3, 2025.

The vocal APC chief did not make any direct reference, but one remarkable thing that happened yesterday was the comeback of the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, following the resignation of Mojisola Meranda, who was voted to replace Obasa when he was impeached by a majority of his colleagues about 49 days earlier.

Yesterday, during the plenary, Obasa was nominated to return to his position after Meranda had formally resigned.

Igbokwe took to his Facbook page to write:

“What happened in Lagos today frightened me to the marrows. It was like a dagger in my heart but I will not go further.”

He followed up with another cryptic message this morning, Tuesday March 4:

“Good morning Nigerians.
I seek peace but not peace of the graveyard. I love democracy but not a kangaroo democracy. I love education but not education without character. I love wealth but not wealth without work. I love commerce with morality.”

Despite not making direct references, his friends seemed to know what he was talking about.

Reacting to the first post, Olanrewaju Olance Segun wrote:

“A shameful script played out today at the Lagos house of assembly”

Ola Fapson quipped: “What transpired today in the Lagos Assembly is to uphold the image of the Lion King of Lagos state government supremacy at large…. Not finished until further investigation.”

One of his Facebook friends, Anthony Ifeanyi Elikene, suggested that Igbokwe was applying double standard by restraining himself from speaking his mind. He wrote:

“If it was East or South South you would go beyond limits no holds barred but the double standards has been known for years, nobi today.

Fear catch you to criticize? No more vahulenze except for East or South South abi?”
