U.S. Vice President JD Vance has dismissed UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s proposal for a “coalition of the willing” to secure peace in Ukraine.

Vance’s remarks have sparked criticism from British officials, coinciding with President Donald Trump’s decision to pause all U.S. military aid to Ukraine.

During an interview with Fox News, Vice President Vance commented on the UK’s offer to deploy troops to Ukraine, stating it amounted to “20,000 troops from some random country that hasn’t fought a war in 30 or 40 years.”

This statement has been perceived as dismissive of the UK’s military contributions in recent conflicts.

British politicians have expressed outrage over Vance’s comments. Shadow Defence Secretary James Cartlidge highlighted that NATO’s Article 5 has been invoked only once—by the U.S. after the 9/11 attacks—and that the UK responded by deploying thousands of personnel to Afghanistan.

Cartlidge emphasized the UK’s significant military engagements in recent decades, including operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Amid these diplomatic tensions, President Trump has ordered a pause on all U.S. military aid to Ukraine.

This decision follows a contentious meeting between Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in the Oval Office.

The suspension affects critical supplies, including the Patriot air defense system, which is essential for Ukraine’s defense against Russian missile strikes.

The recent remarks by Vice President Vance and the suspension of U.S. military aid have strained diplomatic relations between the U.S., the UK, and Ukraine.
