Edo market women protest murd3r of pregnant woman by her husband 8 months after wedding

Women from the Ikpoba Hill Market Women Association have held a protest in Benin City, demanding justice for their member, 38-year-old Ugiagbe Success Izekor, who was allegedly k!lled by her husband, Kelvin Izekor.
Success was four months pregnant when her husband ended her life at their residence on No. 50, Upper Mission Road, Benin City, on Saturday, 22nd February 2025, eight months after their wedding.
According to Edo Police Command spokesperson, Moses Yamu, concerned community residents apprehended Kelvin and nearly lynched him but for the prompt intervention of security operatives.
He is currently in the custody of the police.
Colleagues of the deceased are now calling for justice for her even as they expressed their anger at increasing cases of domestic violence against women.
Their spokesperson, Mrs. Odion Asemota, said the deceased was st3bbed in the neck while lying in bed, and she was four months pregnant at the time of her d3ath.
Mrs. Asemota condemned the suspect’s family for trying to save him from the full consequences of his action.
“This was a man who married Success in June last year, and just eight months later, he stabbed her to death while she was four months pregnant. After k!lling her on Saturday night, he went to her store on Sunday and took the money she used for her Point of Sale (POS) business. He even attempted to secretly dispose of her body on Sunday, but neighbours caught him,” she said.
The elder sister of the deceased, Mrs. Ugiagbe Iziegbe, added that her sister had suffered repeated abuse from her husband and called on both state and federal authorities to ensure justice is served.
