The ‘impeached’ Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has taken decisive control of his office, reinforcing security amid heightened political tensions within the legislative chamber.
Reports indicate that a heavy security presence was deployed as Obasa moved to consolidate his authority, following speculations of internal power struggles among lawmakers.
The Chief Press Secretary to Speaker Mojisola Meranda, Segun Ajiboye confirmed the development.
He accused Obasa and his team of breaking into the Speaker’s office.
The move comes amid allegations of political manoeuvring within the assembly, sparking concerns over legislative stability in the state.
Eyewitnesses disclosed that security operatives restricted access to key areas of the Assembly complex, with only authorized personnel allowed entry.
The development has fueled speculations regarding Obasa’s firm grip on power and the possibility of dissent among lawmakers.
An anonymous insider from the Assembly revealed that the heightened security measures were aimed at preventing any disruptions.
“This is a proactive step to maintain order and prevent any unwanted incidents,” the source stated.
Meanwhile, political analysts suggest that Obasa’s actions could be linked to ongoing power plays within the ruling party, as the 2027 election cycle looms closer.
Efforts to get an official response from Obasa’s office have so far been unsuccessful, but sources close to the speaker insist that the measures are purely administrative and not indicative of any crisis.
