Bandits block Zamfara highway, k!ll cop, abduct expatriate, others

Bandits have struck again in Zamfara State, blocking a major highway, killing a police officer, and abducting several travellers, including an expatriate.

The attack occurred on the busy highway linking Gusau and Funtua, a route frequently targeted by armed groups.

Eyewitnesses report that the bandits blocked the road, halting the movement of vehicles, before launching the deadly attack.

A policeman, part of a security team escorting travellers, was killed during the confrontation. Following the violent assault, the bandits abducted several individuals, including an expatriate, and took them to an unknown location.

Security forces, including a joint team of police and military, are currently working to track down the abductors and rescue the kidnapped victims. This attack is the latest in a series of violent incidents plaguing Zamfara State, which has been grappling with armed banditry and kidnappings.

As of now, authorities have not released the exact number of travelers taken, but the incident has raised fresh concerns about the safety of highways in the region.
