Armed men suspected to be robbers have shot a woman to death in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital.
The incident which has caused panic among residents of the area occurred along NTA Road, Ado Ekiti around 7 am on Saturday, July 6, 2024.
The men who shot the woman were said to be on a motorcycle.
“The gunmen who were riding on a motorcycle made an attempt to forcefully dispossess the woman of her bag while standing by the road,” a source told journalists.
“The woman was said to have resisted the attempt and refused to surrender her bag and other valuables to them.
“She was shot by her assailants who fled the scene immediately.”
People around scampered to safety while business owners and traders hurriedly closed their shops.
The spokesperson of the state police command, DSP Sunday Abutu, who confirmed the incident said the killing was more of a robbery.
He disclosed that the sum of forty thousand, two hundred and eighty naira (N40,280) was found in the bag of the deceased woman.
Abutu said her body has been deposited in the morgue and the police have launched a manhunt for the perpetrators.
