Gospel singer Nathaniel Bassey petitions police to arrest those insinuating he fathered Mercy Chinwo’s baby
Popular Gospel artiste, Nathaniel Bassey, has petitioned the police, seeking lawful punishment for four individuals who insinuated that he had sexual relations with a fellow Gospel singer, Mercy Chinwo.
Bassey filed the petition directly with the Inspector General of Police on April 1, 2024, following claims by four social media users that Mercy Chinwo’s child bears a striking resemblance to Bassey.
The claim was made on X and it instantly went viral.
Bassey’s petition was filed on his behalf by his attorneys Peter Abraham, Uche Matthew, Gbenga Agunloye, and Anthony Abia.
The attorneys implored the police to look into the petition against the four social media users—Okoronkwo Ejike, Kingsley Ibeh, Terrence Ekot, and Dj Spoiltkid—as soon as possible.
The Gospel artiste’s action has been greeted with mixed reactions. While many endorsed it, some others argued that Bassey should have forgiven the rumour carriers.
